A 55-year-old man from Crystal Lake, described as “loved and admired by all,” died after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in front of a high school in Cook County.

The Park Ridge Police Department and Park Ridge Fire Department responded around 10:09 a.m. Friday to the intersection of Dempster Street and Potter Road in Park Ridge for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Officers arrived and found a crash involving a car and a man who had suffered critical injuries, according to the Park Ridge Police Department.

The victim, identified as David Jutovsky, 55, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police initially said Jutovsky was a Northbrook resident but the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later reported he was a Crystal Lake resident.

The driver involved remained at the scene and eastbound Dempster Street was shut down for approximately six hours.

An initial investigation showed that the vehicle was traveling southbound on Potter Road.

The car began making a left turn onto eastbound Dempster Street when it struck Jutovsky, police said.

The man had been crossing Dempster Street when he was hit. Police did not say whether he was in the crosswalk or not.

The incident occurred in front of Maine East High School and no students were involved in the incident, the school said.

Students remained in the building for lunch to allow the crash investigation to take place and to ensure student safety.

The school said students were later released at their normal time but were diverted away from the front doors of the building.

An obituary for Jutovsky said he was a “beloved son” and “loving and caring” brother.

He was described as a “talented and awesome” musician and guitarist who loved bicycling, the outdoors, working out in the gym and dinners and events with his family.

“He was loved and admired by all who knew him,” Jutovsky’s obituary said.

The Park Ridge Police Department is being assisted by the Cook County MCAT Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Unit as the investigation remains ongoing.
