State police say a large portion of Interstate 94 in Deerfield and Northbrook was completely shut down Thursday afternoon following a crash that caused live wires to hang across the tollway.

Illinois State Police Troop 3 said they are conducting traffic control on Interstate 94 just east of the Interstate 294 spur.

A large light pole fell over, causing live wires to hang low over the interstate, around 3:24 p.m. Thursday.

The pole was damaged due to a crash, which is being handled by the Northbrook Police Department.

All eastbound and westbound lanes of the Edens Spur are shut down from Lake Cook Road to Route 41.

State police say there is no estimated time on when the lanes will reopen but crews are actively working on removing the hazard.

Motorists are urged to seek an alternate route during the evening commute.
