The medical examiner has released the identity of an elderly woman who died after she was hit by two vehicles while in the roadway in Buffalo Grove earlier this month.
The Buffalo Grove Police Department responded around 5:20 p.m. on November 5 to the area of Arlington Heights Road and Dundee Road in Buffalo Grove for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Officers arrived and found that the Arlington Heights Police Department and Arlington Heights Fire Department were already on the scene.
Officers learned a pedestrian had been struck by two vehicles on southbound Arlington Heights Road south of Dundee Road, police officials said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as King Shu Sun, 74, of Buffalo Grove.
The incident occurred near the entrance to the Plaza Verde shopping center.
First responders were conducting lifesaving measures on Shu Sun, who was unresponsive.
Shu Sun was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead, police officials said.
It is unclear where exactly the woman was when she was struck by the vehicles or whether she was trying to cross the street.
A red Toyota RAV4, driven by a 78-year-old Grayslake man, and a blue Honda Fit, driven by a 29-year-old Wheaton woman, remained at the scene.
Police officials said the drivers were fully cooperating with the investigation and no citations or charges have been announced.
Arlington Heights Road was completely shut down between Dundee Road and University for approximately four hours due to the investigation.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) responded to the scene for an investigation, crash reconstruction and evidence collection.
The medical examiner’s office released Shu Sun’s identity on Wednesday — two weeks after the incident — due to a lengthy process of getting into contact with her next of kin.
“The Buffalo Grove Police Department extends its appreciation to the Arlington Heights Police and Fire Departments for their prompt response and assistance at the scene,” police officials said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Buffalo Grove Police Department Traffic Unit and MCAT.
