Police say they have located two drivers and are searching for at least one other driver after all of them struck a man, leaving him dead, and fled the scene in Waukegan.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 10:17 p.m. last Friday to the area of York House Road and Newcastle Court for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Craig Neal said officers arrived and located an adult male pedestrian lying in the roadway, west of the Jewel-Osco.

The victim suffered critical injuries and was found unresponsive when officers arrived.

He was pronounced dead at the scene due to the extent of his injuries, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.

He was identified on Tuesday as 64-year-old Cheeramkulathu Jobgeevarghese, also known as Job Kurian, of Waukegan.

A witness told investigators that Jobgeevarghese had been walking in the roadway when he was struck by multiple vehicles, Neal said.

The coroner’s office was called to the scene to take possession of Jobgeevarghese for an autopsy.

An autopsy performed on Monday showed that Jobgeevarghese died as a result of blunt force injuries from being struck by a vehicle, Banek said.

Police shut down the roadway for several hours while the Waukegan Police Department Major Crash Unit responded and conducted an investigation.

Neal said officers were able to locate two of the vehicles involved — a black GMC SUV and a black Honda Pilot.

Officers also located the driver of the GMC, a 34-year-old Waukegan man, and the driver of the Honda, a 44-year-old Waukegan man.

Both drivers fled the scene prior to the police department arriving, Neal said.
