Police say a driver suffered life-threatening injuries after his pickup truck crashed 500 feet off the roadway and rolled over in the front yard of a home in Wauconda Friday evening.

The Wauconda Fire District and Wauconda Police Department responded around 8:47 p.m. Friday to the 30000 block of North Fairfield Road in Wauconda for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Wauconda Police Department Detective Sgt. Heather Cognac said officers arrived and found a single-vehicle rollover crash.

A preliminary investigation shows that a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling northbound on Fairfield Road — approximately 1,500 feet north of Gilmer Road.

Cognac said the Dodge left the roadway, entered the gravel shoulder and continued into a wooded area.

The Dodge traveled an estimated 500 feet through the woods before rolling over and coming to rest on its hood in the front yard of a residence in the 30000 block of North Fairfield Road, Cognac said.

The driver and sole occupant, a 59-year-old man, was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with life-threatening injuries.

Cognac said the driver was suspected to be impaired and open alcoholic beverage containers were observed inside the car.

Fire officials said both lanes of Fairfield Road between Gilmer Road and Chardon Road were shut down for an extended period of time for the investigation.

Motorists were asked to avoid the area and seek alternative routes during the road closure.

The incident remains under active investigation and charges are pending the results of the investigation.
