Firefighters were successful in containing a fire to the garage of a Vernon Hills townhouse before it could spread to the rest of the home, authorities said.

The Countryside Fire Protection District responded to a reported structure fire in the 800 block of Faulkner Place in Vernon Hills, fire officials said.

Crews encountered active fire conditions in a detached garage upon arrival at the townhouse at 4:30 p.m. on November 22, fire officials said.

Fire crews initiated an aggressive fire attack, successfully containing the fire to the garage.

Due to the proximity of the townhouse to the garage, officials said firefighters conducted a primary search of the residence to ensure it was evacuated.

The garage sustained significant damage and was deemed uninhabitable.

No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported, officials said, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
