The cause of a fatal crash involving a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle while crossing a busy Kildeer road on Thanksgiving night remains under investigation, police officials said.

Officers were dispatched to a personal injury accident on Quentin Road, south of Rand Road, that involved a vehicle and a pedestrian at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Kildeer Police Chief Steve Balinski said.

Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male victim, approximately 71 years old, lying in the roadway, Balinski said.

The victim sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash, Balinski said.

The driver of the vehicle, who is approximately 24 years of age, submitted to blood and urine tests after the crash, Balinski said.

Preliminary indications are that there is no suspicion of impairment with the driver of the vehicle, Balinski said.

He added that the Lake Zurich Police and Fire Department, the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, the Lake County Coroner’s Office, the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team, and members of the Citizens Emergency Response Team assisted the Kildeer Police Department during the incident.

“The reason why the victim was crossing Quentin Road on foot has not been determined at this stage of the investigation,” Balinski said. “This was a tragic event that occurred on Thanksgiving evening.”
