A Wisconsin woman is in custody, and a male is wounded following what police have described as a domestic-related shooting in the parking lot of a Gurnee hotel, police said.
Gurnee Police were notified of possible evidence of a shooting in the driveway of the unidentified hotel at about 11:53 a.m. Friday, said Shawn Gaylor, Public Information Officer for the Gurnee Police Department.
Officers responded to the area, and evidence technicians located and collected physical evidence of a shooting in the parking lot of the hotel located at Grand Avenue and I-94, Gaylor said.
Gaylor said police determined the incident to be a targeted, domestic-related dispute that originated in another community.
Surveillance footage obtained during the investigation revealed a dark-colored van arrived at the hotel at approximately 9:44 p.m. on Thursday.
A male exited the passenger side and was followed by a female holding a handgun, Gaylor said.
The video appears to show the female, later identified as Angela M. Mack, 40, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, discharging multiple rounds at the male.
One of the bullets struck the male in the leg, Gaylor said.
Mack and the male climbed back into the van together and left the area, Gaylor said.
During the investigation, Gurnee detectives were notified that a gunshot victim had arrived at a nearby hospital, Gaylor said.
Investigators responded and located Mack and the involved male, Gaylor said.
Mack was transported to the Gurnee Police Department, Gaylor said, where she later confessed to her role in the incident.
Through interviews and additional investigation, detectives determined that the shooting stemmed from an ongoing domestic dispute between the two that began in a neighboring town.
The duo stopped at the hotel during the argument where the shooting occurred, then later drove to the hospital to seek medical treatment for the gunshot wound.
After reviewing the case with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, Mack was charged with a Class X felony count of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, a Class 1 felony for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and a Class 4 felony count for Reckless Discharge of a Firearm.
Mack appeared in Lake County Circuit Court early Saturday, where prosecutors filed a motion to detain her until trial.
She is due back in court on Monday afternoon.
Gaylor added that the shooting was an isolated incident between two individuals who know each other, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
