One person is seriously injured following a crash near McHenry Middle School late Friday night that resulted in a vehicle rolling over and the driver being ejected, authorities said.

Ashley O’Herron, Public Affairs Officer for the McHenry Police Department, said McHenry Police Officers were called to the area of Chapel Hill Road and Julia Way regarding a two-vehicle accident at about 9:20 p.m. Friday.

The preliminary investigation shows that two cars were traveling southbound on Chapel Hill Road when, for an unknown reason, the first car rear-ended the second car.

The crash caused the first vehicle to roll over several times, O’Herron said.

O’Heron said the driver in the rolled-over vehicle was ejected.

McHenry Township Fire Protection District personnel were also called to the scene of the crash.

The ejected driver was transported from the scene via ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in serious condition, O’Herron said.

It was reported that a medical helicopter was requested to transport the victim, but the helicopter was unavailable.

The driver of the second vehicle was uninjured in the crash, O’Herron said.

O’Herron said there are no indications that alcohol was a factor in the incident, and an investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing.

Chapel Hill Road was closed from about 9:20 p.m. Friday until about 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning to investigate the crash.
