No citations were issued after a Cary police squad pulled out in front of a tow truck and caused a crash on Route 14 in Cary while en route to a call, officials said.

A Cary police officer was driving a marked squad car in the area of East Main Street and Route 14 around 8:56 p.m. last Monday.

Cary Deputy Police Chief Scott Naydenoff said the officer was traveling westbound on Main Street and reached the intersection at Route 14.

The officer had a red traffic signal and stopped prior to making a right turn to travel westbound onto Route 14, Naydenoff said.

A tow truck was driving westbound on Route 14 and began to pass through the intersection.

Naydenoff said the officer pulled out and the squad’s front driver’s side struck the rear passenger side of the tow truck.

The tow truck driver and the officer were both uninjured and both vehicles were able to be driven away from the scene.

The officer had been en route to back up another officer on a traffic stop but the officer was not traveling emergent and did not have his lights or siren activated, Naydenoff said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation into the crash due to the crash involving Cary police.

No citations were issued, Naydenoff added.
