Sheriff’s police are investigating after a disturbance involving several people led to a gunman opening fire outside of an apartment building near Long Grove.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Office and Long Grove Fire Protection District responded around 7:08 p.m. on November 24 to the 2400 block of Randall Lane in unincorporated Arlington Heights, near the border of Long Grove, for a report of a shooting.
The incident was initially dispatched as a person shot but officers did not find anyone wounded.
Sheriff’s officials said deputies arrived and found shots had been fired but no one was shot.
Officers learned that a disturbance involving several individuals had occurred just before the shooting.
An unknown male wearing all-black clothing and a ski mask fired a handgun at the victim following the verbal dispute, sheriff’s officials said.
The victim was not struck and refused medical attention by Long Grove firefighters and paramedics.
The offender fled before officers arrived and no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Detectives, a canine unit and a police helicopter converged on the area while searching for the suspect and investigating the incident.
Sheriff’s officials said Monday that the investigation remained ongoing and there were no updates.
