A Round Lake Beach man, who was an innocent bystander, was hospitalized after a gunman fired almost two dozen shots outside of a bar in Waukegan, police said.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 12:40 a.m. on November 22 to Frolic Lounge, 2902 Washington Street in Waukegan, for a report of a shooting.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Craig Neal said officers arrived and confirmed a shooting had occurred outside of the bar.
There were 20 shell casings recovered in the roadway outside of Frolic Lounge.
A white Jeep Cherokee in the parking lot was damaged by what appeared to be a bullet hole in the rear window and the driver’s headrest.
Neal said a 40-year-old Round Lake Beach man was located inside the bar suffering a gunshot wound to his right leg.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was stabilized.
The male victim told investigators he was smoking a cigarette outside the bar.
The man saw a group of male Hispanics exiting the bar and overheard an argument before someone began firing shots, Neal said.
The victim ran inside of Frolic Lounge to escape the gunfire before realizing he had been shot.
Neal said investigators spoke with several witnesses at the scene but no suspects have been identified.
The investigation remains active and ongoing by the Waukegan Police Department as of Tuesday.
