Authorities say a driver fled the scene on foot after a pickup truck hauling a car transportation trailer, which was loaded, rolled over off the road near Algonquin.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 1:35 a.m. on November 27 to the area of Cary-Algonquin Road and Allen Road in unincorporated Algonquin for a vehicle crash.

Deputies arrived and found the crash on Cary-Algonquin Road just north of Allen Road, according to McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Communication Specialist Emily Matusek-Baker.

A white 2022 Dodge Ram and trailer, which was carrying two trucks, had rolled over along the side of the road.

There was no one located in the vehicle. A man, later identified as the passenger, walked back to the scene when the fire department arrived, Matusek-Baker said.

The passenger explained that someone else was driving and had fled the scene before first responders arrived.

Matusek-Baker said the information was confirmed by the transportation company that the two truck occupants were working under.

Deputies attempted to locate the driver using canines as well as foot and vehicle patrols but were unsuccessful.

The driver was later positively identified but attempts to contact her have failed, Matusek-Baker said.

No citations or charges have been issued so far. A bystander at the scene told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the driver was possibly unlicensed.
