A woman was hospitalized after she was struck by an SUV while walking her dog, leaving the pet fatally injured, in Lake Forest Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.

The Lake Forest Fire Department and Lake Forest Police Department responded around 12:30 p.m. Thursday to the intersection of Green Bay Road and Old Elm Road for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Lake Forest Fire Department Deputy Chief Chris Roberts said initial reports indicated a vehicle had struck a pedestrian.

Fire department crews arrived and found an adult female who had been struck by a small SUV while walking her dog.

The driver, also an adult female, remained at the scene and cooperated with first responders, Roberts said.

A Lake Forest Fire Department ambulance transported the female pedestrian to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Roberts said the dog “sadly” did not survive and was pronounced dead.
