A driver, patrons and employees were uninjured after a driver crashed her SUV through a Jimmy John’s in Volo, breaking the front glass windows Friday afternoon.
The Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:37 p.m. Friday to Jimmy John’s, 2745 West Hartigan Road in Volo, for a report of a vehicle crash.
Firefighters arrived and found an SUV that had crashed into the restaurant, according to Fox Lake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ted Damos.
The car was halfway inside the restaurant on the side of the building.
Damos said the driver was the sole occupant of the SUV and she was out of the car when crews arrived.
The woman was assessed by paramedics and she did not report any injuries and declined transport to the hospital.
No one inside the business was reported to be injured either, Damos said. A board-up company was called to secure the broken windows.
The damage to the building was not structural in nature and only the glass windows were damaged.
The Lake County Health Department and Lake County Planning, Building and Development Department were both notified of the incident.
Damos said the car sustained minor front-end damage and was towed from the scene.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was investigating the cause of the crash. It is unknown if any citations have been issued.
