The U.S. Marshals and police captured a suspect in Vernon Hills wanted for the attempted murder of a police officer who was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured in Chicago.
Antwan Ford, 27, of Ford Heights, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery of a peace officer and leaving the scene of a crash with injury.
Ford was arrested by members of the Chicago Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The Chicago Police Department said Ford was identified as the offender who struck and seriously injured a police officer around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The officer is a member of the Cook County Fugitive Task Force, which was attempting to apprehend Ford in the 2500 block of East 74th Street in Chicago, police said.
Ford was captured the next day at the Holiday Inn Express Chicago NW-Vernon Hills, 975 North Lakeview Parkway in Vernon Hills.
He was transported to the Cook County Courthouse for a detention hearing on Saturday.
Court records show a judge ordered Ford detained pending trial, agreeing with prosecutors that he poses a danger to the community.
Ford, who is being held in the Cook County Jail, is scheduled to appear in court again on Wednesday for a status hearing.
