Police are actively investigating the disappearance of a Buffalo Grove man who has been missing for days and his car was found at a marina in Winthrop Harbor with no trace of him.
Tomas Stundzia, 48, of Buffalo Grove, was last heard from around 5 p.m. Sunday by text message.
Paulius Abromavicius, who is a friend of Stundzia, said she is desperately asking for the public’s help in locating him.
Toll records show Stundzia’s car was traveling northbound on Interstate 94 near Wadsworth around 10 a.m. Sunday.
Marta Dominika Wysocka, another friend of the man, said that a friend later went to the North Point Marina in Winthrop Harbor and found his car parked there.
Stundzia keeps his boat in a nearby lot at the marina. Wysocka said Stundzia would go ice fishing and overnight fish but his boat is still there.
The storage owner confirmed Stundzia had not been there for approximately two weeks, Abromavicius said.
A police report was made with the Winthrop Harbor Police Department and an investigation is underway.
Police have checked area hospitals and used a drone to search the area with no results.
“Unfortunately, since there’s no evidence of danger or self-harm, the police’s hands are tied right now, though they plan to conduct a boat search soon,” Abromavicius said.
Abromavicius also said that there are no working cameras around the North Point Marina. The marina is reportedly upgrading the camera system during the off-season.
Wysocka said the detective in charge “has his hands tied” since there is no evidence of anything.
“His phone is off, we don’t know the password to his laptop, the only thing we were able to access was his IPASS, that’s why we were able to locate his car,” Wysocka said.
“We are pleading with anyone who was at the North Point Marina or driving on I-94 near Wadsworth on Sunday, December 7th, morning or evening, to please think hard and report anything you might have seen, no matter how small it seems!” Abromavicius said.
Stundzia is described as being 6-foot tall, of average build, with brown hair and facial hair. He drives a gray 2019 Toyota 4Runner.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective William Bogdala from the Winthrop Harbor Police Department at 847-872-2131, extension 2515, or call 911.
