A worker was flown to the hospital after suffering serious injuries during a fall off scaffolding at a construction site at the Water’s Edge development in Crystal Lake Wednesday afternoon.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 1 p.m. Wednesday to Water’s Edge at Three Oaks in the 600 block of Waters Edge Drive in Crystal Lake for a report of a fall victim.
Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department Deputy Chief Mark Menzel said the victim was a contractor who was working at the construction site.
The worker fell approximately six feet off of scaffolding, Menzel said.
The victim’s extent of injuries required the response of a LifeNet medical helicopter for transport to a Level 1 trauma center.
Menzel said an ambulance transported the victim to the LifeNet base helipad at Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry.
The victim was transferred to the flight crew and flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The incident occurred at the Water’s Edge, which is a 302-unit mixed-use redevelopment of the former Crystal Court Shopping Center that will offer a variety of housing options, a shopping and dining destination and new park space.
Construction began on the 30-acre Water’s Edge development in 2023. City officials say the project is the largest in Crystal Lake.
The project is being led by Heartland Real Estate Partners, a commercial, retail and residential real estate development firm based in Chicago.
