One person was killed and a second person suffered minor injuries following a head-on crash in Kildeer early Saturday, authorities said.
Kildeer Police Chief Steve Balinski said officers were dispatched to a personal injury crash involving two vehicles on Route 22 between Sanctuary Club Drive and South Krueger Road at 12:45 a.m. Saturday morning.
Upon arrival, officers determined in their preliminary investigation that the driver of a KIA Utility vehicle was heading eastbound on Route 22 when the vehicle crossed into the westbound lanes of Route 22, Balinski said.
The Kia then struck a BMW Utility vehicle heading westbound on Route 22 head-on, Balinski said.
The 44-year-old driver of the Kia from Mundelein sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash, Balinski said.
The 29-year-old female driver of the BMW vehicle from Schaumburg was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, where she was being treated for minor injuries she sustained in the crash, Balinski said.
“It is too early in the investigation to determine if the driver of the KIA vehicle was impaired or experienced any type of medical condition,” Balinski said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Kildeer Police Department and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team, Balinski said.
