An investigation is underway after one person was found dead and a second person suffered apparent serious injuries at a home near Harvard Saturday afternoon.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, McHenry County Conservation Police Department and Harvard Fire Protection District responded around 4:55 p.m. Saturday to the 4500 block of Island Road in unincorporated Harvard for a penetrating trauma call.

A 911 caller reported their grandmother had been stabbed.

Officers arrived on the scene and reported finding a female deceased, according to emergency radio traffic.

The McHenry County Coroner’s Office confirmed they responded to the scene for one female victim, whose cause of death has not been determined yet and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Officers searched the rest of the home and found a male subject who was down and injured.

Harvard Fire Chief John Kimmel said his department responded to a call for a female down.

The female victim was not transported and paramedics encountered a second victim, Kimmel said.

The second victim was transported by ambulance to Mercyhealth Hospital and Medical Center in Harvard.

Kimmel said the victim was then flown from the hospital helipad to a Level 1 trauma center for treatment.

The fire chief declined to release further details on the incident, deferring to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office had established a crime scene and was seen investigating at the home throughout the evening and into Sunday.

Sheriff’s officials have not released information on the case as of Monday morning and it is unknown if anyone is in custody.
