Two adults were hospitalized with moderate injuries after a crash between an SUV and a semi-truck caused heavy damage near Marengo Monday morning, fire officials said.

The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 9:33 a.m. Monday to the intersection of Kishwaukee Valley Road and Deerpass Road in unincorporated Marengo for reports of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived on the scene and located a crash involving a mid-sized SUV and a semi-truck, according to Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts Public Information Officer Alex Vucha.

The passenger vehicle, a Jeep, sustained heavy damage and came to rest within the intersection.

The semi-truck, which was a garbage hauler, had damage to its trailer and was located several hundred feet east of the intersection, Vucha said.

The semi-truck was not hauling any hazardous materials and no fuel spills or additional hazards were identified at the scene.

Vucha said the SUV was occupied by two adults, both of whom were injured in the crash.

Their injuries were determined to be moderate but not life-threatening.

Both victims were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals for further evaluation and treatment.

The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured and declined medical attention at the scene, Vucha said.

Kishwaukee Valley Road was shut down in both directions for over an hour due to a large debris field and for the vehicles to be removed.

It is unclear which vehicle was at fault. The semi-truck appeared to be traveling on Kishwaukee Valley Road while the Jeep appeared to be traveling on Deerpass Road.

Traffic on Kishwaukee Valley Road does not have a traffic control device while traffic on Deerpass Road has a stop sign at the intersection.
