An elderly victim was flown to the hospital but is expected to survive after suffering serious injuries during a fall at a memory care facility in McHenry Tuesday afternoon.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District and Nunda Rural Fire Protection District responded around 2:25 p.m. Tuesday to White Oaks at McHenry, 4605 West Crystal Lake Road, for a report of a fall victim.

McHenry Township Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ryan Mastandrea said it was initially thought that the patient had suffered severe injuries.

The elderly victim, who is a resident of the facility, was determined to have potentially serious injuries that required the response of a helicopter, Mastandrea said.

A LifeNet medical helicopter was notified and an ambulance transported the patient to the LifeNet helipad base at Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry.

The victim was transferred to the flight crew and flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, which is a Level 1 trauma center.

Mastandrea said the patient’s prognosis is good and their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
