A pregnant woman was transported to the hospital after she crashed into a stopped garbage truck, resulting in heavy damage, near McHenry Tuesday morning.
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 9:10 a.m. Tuesday to the 3000 block of North Ringwood Road in unincorporated McHenry for a report of a vehicle crash.
McHenry Township Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ryan Mastandrea said fire crews arrived to find a two-vehicle crash.
The crash occurred in the southbound lanes of Ringwood Road, between McCullom Lake Road and Martin Road.
A red passenger car had crashed into the rear of a stopped garbage truck, Mastandrea said.
The car was driven by a pregnant female, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
She was transported by ambulance to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington in good condition, Mastandrea said.
The driver of the garbage truck was uninjured and declined transport to the hospital.
Mastandrea said the car sustained heavy front-end damage and had to be towed from the scene.
The southbound lane of Ringwood Road was temporarily shut down while crews worked to clear the scene but the northbound lane remained open for traffic.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office was investigating the cause of the crash and it is unknown if any citations or charges would be filed.
