A United States Postal Service worker, who was in his 40s, collapsed and died in the parking lot of a post office near Lake Forest Monday evening, authorities said.
The Libertyville Fire Department responded around 9:02 p.m. Monday to the U.S. Post Office Carrier Annex, 27848 Bradley Road in unincorporated Lake Forest, for a report of a medical emergency.
Coroner’s officials said a postal worker collapsed in the parking lot of his workplace.
He appeared to be having a medical event, which was witnessed by a co-worker who called 911.
Paramedics arrived and found the man unresponsive. Lifesaving measures were performed but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Paramedics transported him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where the coroner’s office responded and took possession of him.
An autopsy was performed on Wednesday on the Waukegan man, who was in his mid-40s and had a significant cardiac history, the coroner’s office said.
The preliminary autopsy results show the death appeared to be natural and likely related to a cardiac condition.
The man’s identity has not been publicly released as the coroner’s office was still working to notify his next of kin.
A U.S. Post Office Carrier Annex is a postal facility where mail carriers typically start and end their routes and where mail is sorted. It usually does not offer window service for customers.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Postal Service has not responded to a request for comment on the postal carrier’s death.
