An elderly man was flown to the hospital with potentially serious injuries after he fell down almost a flight of stairs at a home in McHenry, fire officials said.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 11:05 a.m. Saturday to the 6300 block of Chickaloon Drive in McHenry for a fall victim call.

McHenry Township Fire Protection District Battalion Chief David Harwood said paramedics arrived and found an injured 77-year-old man.

The man’s wife called 911 after the victim fell down approximately 10 stairs, Harwood said.

The man, who was complaining of pain, was determined to have potentially serious injuries that required the response of a helicopter, Harwood said.

Paramedics were also concerned based on the victim’s extensive medical history and the mechanism of injury.

Harwood said a LifeNet medical helicopter was notified and an ambulance transported the patient to the LifeNet helipad base at Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry.
