A former Huntley man has been charged with sexually assaulting a female family member after the two returned home from drinking at a bar in Huntley, prosecutors said.

Kobe Anthony, 26, of Montgomery, was charged with one count of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony.

Prosecutors said Anthony and the victim, a family member of his, were drinking at a bar in Huntley in the summer of 2022.

The two returned home in Huntley and the victim went to sleep on August 7, 2022.

She woke up to be sexually assaulted by Anthony, prosecutors said.

The victim told investigators she tried to stop the attack by Anthony but the suspect covered her face and shut the door to prevent her from leaving, prosecutors said.

The Huntley Police Department investigated the case and obtained an arrest warrant for Anthony in March 2023, seven months after the assault.

The warrant, which was issued before the SAFE-T Act went into effect in Illinois, carried an $80,000 bond with 10% to apply.

Anthony was arrested on the warrant on Saturday and appeared for Initial Appearance Court on Monday.

Anthony chose to proceed under the SAFE-T Act instead of posting the monetary bond from the warrant.

The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain him pending trial, calling him a danger to the community, and McHenry County Judge Mary Nader granted the petition following the hearing.

Nader found that there were no conditions or combinations of conditions that the court could impose to keep the community safe based on Anthony’s dangerousness.

McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi Freese said she commends the detectives from the Huntley Police Department for a thorough investigation that led to the charge.

Anthony remains held in the McHenry County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court again on Wednesday morning.
