Two people had to be extricated by the fire department and hospitalized after they were left trapped in an SUV that rolled over in Lincolnshire, fire officials said.
The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District and Lincolnshire Police Department responded around 9:45 p.m. Saturday to Route 22 and Milwaukee Avenue in Lincolnshire for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Fire crews arrived and initially reported a two-vehicle crash with one car rolled over onto its side.
Fire officials said it was later confirmed to be one vehicle involved and two occupants inside were left trapped.
The Buffalo Grove Fire Department and the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District responded to assist with extrication efforts.
“Quick, coordinated efforts by responding crews resulted in prompt vehicle stabilization and efficient extrication,” fire officials said.
Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District Lt. Brian Washburn said the crash involved a single-vehicle, an SUV that rolled over and came to rest on its driver’s side.
Washburn said crews stabilized the vehicle using struts and a tie-back to a tree before removing the roof and front windshield.
After the two pieces of the vehicle were removed, firefighters were able to free the victims.
Paramedics transport both adult occupants to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
It is unknown if any charges or citations have been issued. The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Lincolnshire Police Department, which has not responded to a request for comment.
