One person was flown to the hospital with serious injuries and a second person was also injured after a car rolled over off Interstate 90 into a ditch near Huntley Wednesday afternoon.
The Huntley Fire Protection District and Illinois State Police responded around 2:44 p.m. Wednesday to Interstate 90 near milepost 44 outside of Huntley for a vehicle crash with injuries.
The Illinois State Police said the single-vehicle crash occurred in the eastbound lanes near Brier Hill Road.
A preliminary investigation shows that a driver lost control while on the interstate, rolled over and landed in the right ditch. Heavy damage was reported.
State police said two occupants from the vehicle were hospitalized with injuries. Their conditions were not immediately known.
One of the victims was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley and a medical helicopter was requested.
The LifeNet helicopter met the ambulance at the hospital’s helipad and the victim was transferred to the flight crew for transport to a Level 1 trauma center due to apparent serious injuries.
A second ambulance transported the second occupant to a local hospital for treatment.
A woman who witnessed the crash told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that it was “horrible” and involved a white Jeep. She said she has not stopped thinking about the two people in the car.
State police say the cause of the crash remains under investigation and no further information was immediately available.
