Metra trains on the Milwaukee District North line are experiencing significant delays after being halted Friday morning due to a car on the tracks in Fox Lake.
Metra reported that Train #2108 was stopped around 6:20 a.m. Friday near Ingleside due to a vehicle stuck on the train tracks.
Train #2108 was originally scheduled to arrive at Chicago Union Station at 7:24 a.m.
Metra reported 15 minutes later that all Milwaukee District North line inbound and outbound trains would be halted in the area due to the incident.
“Delay times are unknown but extensive delays are anticipated. Passengers may consider Union Pacific North or North Central Service lines as alternates,” the transit agency said.
The Metra Police Department and Fox Lake Police Department responded around 6:05 a.m. to the area of the Ingleside Metra station, 555 Rollins Road in Fox Lake.
The car, a black Jeep, was not reported to be struck by any train but was blocking the tracks and was reported by a Metra train conductor, according to police radio traffic.
The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and refused medical attention.
It is unclear why the vehicle was on the tracks. A tow truck and a track inspector were also called to the scene.
Train #2126, scheduled to depart Fox Lake at 8:27 a.m., and Train #2105, scheduled to depart Chicago Union Station at 7:05 a.m., were canceled.
Metra reported around 7:45 a.m. that inbound and outbound trains were on the move but trains were extensively delayed. The track inspector had deemed the tracks safe for use.
Trains #2112, scheduled to arrive at Chicago Union Station at 7:53 a.m., and Train #2116, scheduled to arrive at Chicago Union Station at 8:14 a.m., were expressing from Lake County to Chicago.
