The coroner has released the identity of a Marengo woman who was found dead inside her car that crashed in Harvard amid slick conditions reported in McHenry County Monday morning.
The Harvard Fire Protection District and Harvard Police Department responded around 5:55 a.m. Monday to 600 South Division Street in Harvard for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Fire crews arrived within minutes and found a vehicle that was off the roadway, according to Harvard Fire Protection District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha.
The car had sustained minor damage and was located near the intersection of Route 14, also known as Division Street, and McGuire Road.
Vucha said firefighters and paramedics located an adult female driver inside the car.
McHenry County Coroner Dr. Michael Rein identified her on Tuesday as Kirsten Harmon, 60, of Marengo.
Harmon was unconscious and not breathing. She was pronounced dead at the scene, Vucha said.
Vucha said the cause of her death remains under investigation by the Harvard Police Department and McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
Harvard Deputy Police Chief Carmen Sacco said more information would likely be known after the autopsy.
Rein said an autopsy was performed on Harmon on Tuesday but no preliminary results were available. Toxicology results are pending.
While it is unclear what caused the crash, the incident occurred while a winter weather advisory was in effect for McHenry County.
The National Weather Service said wind-driven light snow and blowing snow would cause localized hazardous travel.
Snow accumulations of up to around an inch were expected alongside winds gusting as high as 55 mph.
The National Weather Service warned motorists to plan on slick road conditions and blowing snow that would significantly reduce visibility.
The hazardous conditions impacted the Monday morning commute with crashes reported throughout the McHenry County area.
