Residents were left homeless after an apparent accidental fire left their home with smoke damage throughout on New Year’s Eve in Hebron, fire officials said.
The Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District responded around 4:09 p.m. Wednesday to the 9600 block of Main Street in Hebron for a report of a structure fire.
The Richmond, Wonder Lake, Spring Grove, Woodstock, Lake Geneva and Fontana fire departments were also dispatched automatically.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to find a large residential structure that had an exterior fire at the rear of the home, according to Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District Chief Thomas Linneman.
The fire was quickly brought under control by firefighters within 10 minutes of the call.
Linneman said damage was contained to the exterior wall of the home but smoke damage was noted throughout the structure.
No residents or firefighters were injured in the incident. McHenry firefighters stood by at Hebron’s fire station.
The house was deemed uninhabitable until repairs can be made and utilities are restored. Damage was estimated at $25,000, Linneman said.
The cause of the fire appears to be accidental but it remains under investigation by the Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District.
