A man was hospitalized after being struck by a car as he tried crossing busy Milwaukee Avenue, causing the road to be completely shut down in downtown Libertyville Thursday evening.
The Libertyville Fire Department and Libertyville Police Department responded around 6:35 p.m. Thursday to the area of Milwaukee Avenue and Church Street for a vehicle crash with injuries.
A 911 caller reported a 50-year-old man was struck by a vehicle near Pizzeria DeVille.
Officers arrived and found the crash just north of Church Street, according to Libertyville Police Department Sgt. Dusan Racic.
The pedestrian was found down in the roadway suffering from injuries, Racic said.
Racic said paramedics transported him to a local hospital for treatment where he was listed as being stabilized. His condition was not released.
Officers learned the pedestrian was crossing Milwaukee Avenue when he was hit by the Jeep Wrangler.
The Jeep came to a stop in the southbound lanes, north of the crosswalk at the intersection.
Police did not say whether the driver remained at the scene or whether anyone in the vehicle was injured.
Officers shut down Milwaukee Avenue in both directions while investigating the crash. The roadway was fully reopened by 8:20 p.m.
No citations or charges have been announced and the incident remains under investigation by the Libertyville Police Department.
