Police are searching for at least two suspects who were caught attempting to burglarize parked cars in a neighborhood in Gurnee during the overnight hours Tuesday.

A resident in the area of Washington Street and Hillview Drive in Gurnee said they experienced a car break-in early Tuesday morning.

Their Ring security camera captured the incident, which involved at least two suspects, in the Ravinia Woods subdivision around 1:09 a.m.

One suspect approached a silver car and the other suspect approached a white car while both were parked in the home’s driveway, the video showed.

One of the vehicles was locked and the suspect was unable to gain entry.

The video showed the second vehicle was left unlocked and the suspect was able to gain entry before the two quickly ran away down the street.

The resident said they called the police and officers were checking the area.

The Gurnee Police Department confirmed they responded around 1:15 a.m. to the call in the 400 block of Cliffwood Lane.

Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said the resident was alerted by their security camera to suspicious activity in their driveway.

The resident saw on the camera that two suspects were entering an unlocked vehicle, Gaylor said.

The resident called the police but the suspects fled the area before officers arrived, Gaylor said. No items were reported stolen.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said they did not receive any calls from residents in unincorporated Gurnee for any thefts or burglary to motor vehicles overnight.

The Ravinia Woods subdivision, as well as nearby Grandwood Park, also experienced vehicle burglaries early last month.

The sheriff’s office has previously said that it is important for residents to lock their car doors when the car is unattended.

Unoccupied cars should not be left running and spare keys or key fobs should not be left in unoccupied vehicles.

Motorists should also remove valuables from their vehicles and keep residential exterior lighting on during overnight hours, the sheriff’s office said.

Residents are also recommended to consider video surveillance cameras.

Anyone who spots suspicious activity should always call 911 immediately.
