One person was transported to the hospital with injuries after an SUV crashed into a semi-tractor-trailer truck, with the car becoming lodged underneath the trailer, on Interstate 294 near Deerfield.
The Illinois State Police and Northbrook Fire Department responded around 10:11 a.m. Wednesday to Interstate 294 at the 52.75 mile post in Deerfield for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries and entrapment.
Illinois State Police said Troop 3 troopers arrived and found a two-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes just south of Lake Cook Road.
The crash involved a blue Lincoln SUV that was lodged underneath a semi-trailer.
The semi-tractor-trailer had jackknifed and was blocking three lanes of traffic.
Initial reports indicated someone was trapped inside the Lincoln SUV but firefighters arrived and reported no extrication was needed.
State police said one person was transported to a local hospital by ambulance with injuries considered not life-threatening.
Multiple lanes of northbound Interstate 294 were shut down for nearly two hours until being reopened around 12 p.m.
Ernie’s Wrecker Service responded with a heavy wrecker to lift the trailer off the SUV and remove the vehicles from the scene.
State police said they did not immediately have further information on the cause of the crash or whether citations were issued.
It is unclear if weather played a factor in the crash but the crash occurred when gusty snow showers led to slick roads and reduced visibility in the Chicagoland area.
