A child was hospitalized with moderate injuries after he lost control of his ATV and it rolled over off the roadway in Wonder Lake, fire officials said.
The Wonder Lake Fire Protection District, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Wonder Lake Police Department responded around 4 p.m. Thursday to the 3500 block of Westwood Drive in Wonder Lake for a vehicle crash.
Fire crews arrived and reported finding an ATV that had rolled over.
A medical helicopter was placed on standby while the fire department was responding but was canceled after paramedics assessed the victim.
Wonder Lake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Patrick Devore said the operator of the ATV, who was the sole occupant, was a juvenile.
The boy reported he tried to dodge a vehicle on the roadway and lost control, Devore said.
The ATV went into the ditch and rolled over, coming to rest on its side.
The child, whose age was not released, suffered moderate but non-life-threatening injuries, Devore said.
He was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry for treatment.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office was investigating the incident. It is unknown if any citations were issued.
