Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a fire that broke out and filled an 11,000-square-foot house with heavy smoke in Barrington Hills Monday evening, fire officials said.
The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District responded around 6:58 p.m. Monday to the 0-100 block of Roundstone Lane in Barrington Hills for an activated residential fire alarm.
Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District Fire Chief Scott Motisi said firefighters responding were advised that multiple alarm zones were activated.
The monitored system also had security cameras, which showed smoke inside the residence.
The incident was upgraded to a Code 3 response and eventually a Code 4 response, prompting numerous fire departments to respond to the scene, Motisi said.
Firefighters arrived on the scene in under eight minutes and found a large multi-story house with heavy smoke throughout the first floor of the home, which is just under 11,000 square feet.
Motisi said firefighters initiated a fire attack plan, which focused on extinguishing the fire-involved contents located on the first floor of the house.
Fire crews also worked to conduct searches of the home, ventilate the smoke and conduct overhaul operations.
While numerous resources were initially dispatched, they were returned prior to arriving as the fire was quickly brought under control, Motisi said.
The fire was deemed fully extinguished within half an hour of firefighters arriving.
The fire damage was contained to the initial area of origin and did not spread further. The home remains habitable, Motisi said.
No residents or first responders were injured due to the incident. No pets were involved.
Motisi said the cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District fire investigators.
