A man suffered a traumatic head injury and was flown to the hospital after falling off a forklift near Woodstock Wednesday morning, fire officials said.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 8:23 a.m. Wednesday to the 14400 block of Washington Street in unincorporated Woodstock for a report of a vehicle crash with entrapment.
Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said fire crews were responding and learned updated information that clarified the incident was not a vehicle crash and instead a forklift incident.
A 911 caller reported that a person was possibly trapped underneath a forklift.
Firefighters and paramedics arrived on the scene and were directed to a garage on the property where an injured adult male was found, Vucha said.
The incident was dispatched as 14410 Washington Street, which is where Alvarez Tires and Auto Repair is located.
The accident occurred at the building directly behind Alvarez Tires and Auto Repair and involved a separate party who was not affiliated with the business, Vucha said.
Fire crews learned that the man had fallen from the forklift and suffered a traumatic head injury.
He was not trapped beneath the forklift when emergency crews arrived on the scene, Vucha said.
Paramedics immediately began providing care and determined that air medical transport was necessary due to the severity of the injuries.
Vucha said the victim was transported by ambulance to the Northwestern Medicine Woodstock Hospital helipad.
A LifeNet medical helicopter landed and transported him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, which is a Level 1 trauma center.
