Police announced the arrest of a Huntley man who is accused of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13 in Huntley as investigators say there are other potential victims.
The Huntley Police Department said Thursday they arrested Robert S. Henze, 58, of Huntley, on the charges of predatory criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
The police department in May took a report of potential child sex crimes and child sexual abuse material involving a victim under the age of 13 at a residence in Huntley, according to Huntley Deputy Police Chief Kevin Keane.
Detectives began investigating the allegations and identified “other potential juvenile victims whom the suspect had access to,” Keane said.
The potential victims were interviewed by the McHenry County Child Advocacy Center (CAC), as well as trained staff from the Moore County, North Carolina, Child Advocacy Center, with the assistance of the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
Huntley police detectives and Illinois Attorney General investigators, with the assistance of the Illinois State Police, conducted a search warrant on August 1 at Henze’s residence in the 10900 block of Janice Drive.
Keane said investigators from the Office of the Illinois Attorney General and Illinois State Police assisted Huntley Police Department detectives in the examination and analysis of several seized electronic devices.
Henze was charged on Thursday with one count of predatory criminal sexual assault, Class X felony, and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Henze committed several sex acts on the girl, who was under the age of 13, between July 2021 and July 2023. The girl is a family member of Henze.
Henze was transported to McHenry County Jail to await a detention hearing after the state’s attorney’s office filed a petition to detain him.
“Due to the nature of the allegations and the age of the victims, investigators utilized a victim-centered, trauma-informed approach throughout this case,” Keane said.
“Disclosures of abuse are often a process rather than a single event, and investigators worked at a pace guided by the comfort and needs of the victims and their family. The family was kept informed throughout the investigation,” Keane said.
The police department thanked the Child Advocacy Centers of McHenry County and Moore County, North Carolina, for their assistance with forensic interviews and connecting the victims with resources to support their healing.
“This is still an active investigation and no further details will be released at this time,” Keane said.
