A driver was surprisingly uninjured after his semi-tractor-trailer truck rolled over, causing major damage and shutting down Route 41 in Lake Forest, authorities said.
The Lake Forest Police Department responded around 6:05 a.m. Saturday to the area of Route 41 north of Westleigh Road for a commercial vehicle crash.
Officers arrived and found a semi-tractor-trailer truck rolled over on the side of Route 41 between Route 60 and Westleigh Road.
Lake Forest Deputy Police Chief Kevin Zelk said an investigation showed the semi-tractor was traveling northbound in the right lane.
The driver reported that an unidentified vehicle suddenly moved into his lane.
He said he steered onto the shoulder to avoid the collision but lost control during the maneuver, Zelk said.
The truck left the roadway and overturned onto its side.
Zelk said the semi-tractor was never struck by the other vehicle, which driving and was not identified.
The driver of the semi-tractor was uninjured and declined transport to the hospital.
The semi-tractor and trailer both sustained significant damage, Zelk said.
The truck was carrying approximately 20,000 pounds of plastic materials at the time of the crash.
A light pole was struck during the crash and the Illinois Department of Transportation responded to complete repairs.
Route 41 was partially shut down for approximately four hours while Ernie’s Wrecker Service uprighted and removed the tractor and trailer.
