Police announced charges against a 32-year-old man who they say traveled to Lake County to sexually assault a child in Fox Lake following a search warrant conducted at his home Thursday.
Fox Lake Police Department Sgt. Rick Howell said the police department detained a person of interest in connection with an investigation involving child pornography and the criminal sexual assault of a minor.
The suspect was identified as Adam A. Lares, 32, of Roselle.
The Fox Lake Police Department on January 6 was made aware of a sexual assault involving Lares and a juvenile victim.
Officers also received information indicating Lares was in possession of child pornography during the course of the investigation, Howell said.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office assisted and investigators obtained a search warrant for Lares’ residence in the 200 block of Rodenburg Road in Roselle.
Investigators from the Fox Lake Police Department carried out the search warrant around 5 a.m. Thursday, Howell said.
The warrant service was conducted with assistance from the Roselle Police Department, Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group and North Central Narcotics Task Force.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office Cyber Crimes Division and Lake County Child Advocacy Center also assisted.
Lares was detained and multiple items of evidence were seized from the residence following the warrant.
He was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony; two counts of traveling to meet a minor, a Class 3 felony; and one count of cyberstalking, a Class 4 felony.
Lares was transported to the Lake County Jail where he appeared in First Appearance Court on Friday afternoon.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain Lares pending trial, arguing he poses a danger to the community.
Howell said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are expected.
Lares is set to appear for a detention hearing on Monday afternoon.
