An employee was injured after two trucks became fully engulfed in flames next to a natural gas fueling station at a Waste Management facility near Grayslake early Monday morning.
The Grayslake Fire Protection District responded around 5:16 a.m. Monday to the Waste Management Renewable Natural Gas Facility, 1975 South Route 83 in Grayslake, for a report of a fire.
Grayslake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ian Mandigo said there were reports of two roll-off trucks on fire.
Firefighters arrived and found two trucks heavily engulfed in flames.
There were concerns that the fire could spread to other trucks as well as an adjacent natural gas fueling station, Mandigo said.
Firefighters immediately began pulling multiple hose lines to begin to extinguish the fire and established a water supply.
Mandigo said fire crews operated with enhanced safety precautions due to the potential presence of flammable and hazardous materials.
An employee of the facility suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was evaluated by paramedics but declined transport to the hospital.
No other injuries to staff or fire department personnel were reported.
Mandigo said the fire was brought under control without further damage to the surrounding equipment or facility.
The Mundelein, Countryside, Round Lake and Libertyville fire departments assisted during the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Grayslake Fire Protection District.
