A McHenry County group is set to hold a rally along Route 31 in McHenry on Sunday to protest federal immigration enforcement actions taking place in Illinois and Minnesota.
Indivisible McHenry County has announced the peaceful roadside protest entitled “ICE Out Now!” will take place from noon until 2 p.m. Sunday at the corner of Route 31 and McCullum Lake Road in McHenry.
Sue Rose of Indivisible McHenry County said the purpose of the roadside event is to “protest the violent, deadly, and unconstitutional actions perpetrated by ICE and Border Patrol, and to show solidarity for our neighbors in Minnesota.”
Indivisible McHenry County is a non-partisan group of progressive individuals who value democracy, equal rights, and due process for all, Rose said.
This is the second such protest in recent weeks held by Indivisible McHenry County.
The group held the peaceful roadside protest rally “ICE Out For Good” on Jan. 11 in McHenry.
That event was to protest the murder of Renee Good and other deadly and harmful actions perpetrated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, Rose said.
Participants have been asked not to park in front of operating businesses to leave them open for their customers.
A massive federal immigration enforcement action known as Operation Metro Surge has been taking place in Minnesota throughout the month of January.
The situation has involved up to 3,000 agents and often resulted in violent confrontations between agents and Minnesota protestors.
The action and subsequent protests has also resulted in the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
