Four people were transported to the hospital, one in critical condition, following a head-on crash in Antioch on Thursday afternoon.

Batallion Chief Tim Taylor of the Antioch Fire Department said emergency personnel were called to Route 173, just west of Deep Lake Road, for a head-on crash with injuries at 12:44 p.m. Thursday.

A Volkswagen SUV collided with a Genesis SUV in front of the Antioch Culver’s Restaurant, Taylor said.

Taylor said crews found heavy damage in the roadway due to the force of the crash when they arrived on scene.

Two ambulances initially responded to the crash, Taylor said, but a third ambulance was requested to the scene a short time later.

All four people involved in the crash suffered from non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Taylor said.

Taylor said one patient was transported to the hospital in critical condition, a second person was transported with minor injuries, and two patients were transported out of an abundance of caution due to the force of the crash.

Taylor said the roadway was closed for about an hour while the accident was tended to.
