Three people suffered minor injuries following a two-vehicle, head-on crash that resulted in one driver being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, McHenry police said.

Shawn P. Tuttle, 50, was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol after being released from the hospital following the crash, said Commander Nicholas Clesen of the McHenry Police Department.

Clesen said police were called to the intersection of South IL Route 31 and Veterans Parkway for a crash with injuries at 6:41 p.m. Sunday.

Upon arrival, Clesen said officers found both vehicles had sustained heavy damage, Clesen said.

Both drivers and a passenger in the first vehicle were transported to Northwestern Hospital McHenry with minor injuries by the McHenry Township Fire Protection, Clesen said.

The roadway was closed for several hours while police investigated the crash and the accident was cleared.
