Police arrested a juvenile in Round Lake Park Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly crashed a sedan that was stolen from a Gurnee residence and fled on foot.
The Round Lake Park Police Department, Round Lake Police Department and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday to the 100 block of West Main Street in Round Lake Park for a vehicle that crashed.
Officers arrived and learned the driver and sole occupant of the car involved had fled on foot, Round Lake Park Police Chief Daniel Burch said.
The car, a 2014 Hyundai Sonata, had crashed into brush and trees next to Londono’s Auto Incorporated. The car sustained heavy front-end damage.
Firefighter/paramedics cleared the scene because the driver ran off and there were no other patients to evaluate.
Officers began searching the area for the driver.
A K-9 unit with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office was called to assist in the search.
Officers later found the driver, who was a male juvenile, and arrested him.
Officers learned the Hyundai was reported as stolen from a residence in Gurnee, Burch said.
Police are reviewing the case with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office Juvenile Justice Division for possible charges, Burch added.
