Police are investigating after a suspect tried to force entry to burglarize a house in Highland Park in broad daylight while a resident was home, officials said.
The Highland Park Police Department responded around 3:52 p.m. on February 2 to the 1900 block of Keats Lane in Highland Park for a residential burglary call.
A police report said officers received a 911 call for an attempted residential burglary at a single-family residence.
The caller reported that a male subject was trying to gain entry to the house.
Officers found there was significant damage to a side door, the report said, adding that the total estimated damage is unknown.
Highland Park Communications Manager Amanda Bennett said the burglary was interrupted by the homeowner.
The homeowner heard the suspect initially knocking on the door.
The homeowner then heard the suspect kicking in the side door to the home, Bennett said.
The suspect, after being confronted, fled in a black SUV that was seen backing out of the driveway.
Bennett said the suspect did not gain entry to the home before fleeing the scene prior to officers arriving.
No other burglaries were reported in the area and the Highland Park Police Department has not responded to similar incidents in the prior two weeks, Bennett said.
The case remains under active and ongoing investigation by the Highland Park Police Department.
