An electric vehicle caught on fire and spread to a large garage, quickly fully engulfing the structure and leaving it a total loss while causing minor damage to a home in Fox Lake.
The Fox Lake Fire Protection District responded around 6:53 a.m. Tuesday to the 10 block of Rose Avenue in Fox Lake for a report of a structure fire.
Fox Lake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ted Damos said crews arrived and found a detached garage fully engulfed in flames.
Damos said an electric vehicle was parked inside the garage at the time and it became fully engulfed in flames before extending to the garage.
The fire was at risk of spreading to other structures and firefighters pulled hose lines and began extinguishing the fire.
The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes and no injuries were reported, Damos said.
The fire was reported by a neighbor and the residents were not believed to be home at the time.
Damos said firefighters remained on the scene for approximately two hours extinguishing remaining hotspots and conducting overhaul operations.
The large two-car garage was deemed a complete loss in the fire and damage was estimated at $100,000.
The house next to the garage sustained minor damage to the siding but it remains habitable, Damo said.
ComEd was called to the scene to address an arcing power line. Nicor Gas also responded to the scene.
The Round Lake, Wauconda, Lake Villa and Antioch fire departments assisted the Fox Lake Fire Protection District.
