Four residents and a dog were left displaced after a fire damaged a garage and spread to two houses, leaving both uninhabitable, in Holiday Hills Friday afternoon.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 12:03 p.m. Friday to the 2400 block of South Riverview Drive in Holiday Hills for a report of a structure fire.

A 911 caller reported a garage and fence on fire that was spreading to a house.

McHenry Township Fire Protection District Battalion Chief David Harwood said firefighters arrived in just under seven minutes.

They found a detached garage on fire and two houses also on fire.

The incident was upgraded to a Working Fire response to bring additional personnel and water tenders to the scene, Harwood said.

Firefighters deployed two hose lines and had the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes. The blaze was fully extinguished in approximately 30 minutes.

Harwood said there were no injuries to any residents or firefighters.

The Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox Lake, Nunda Rural, Round Lake, Wauconda, Wonder Lake and Woodstock fire departments assisted at the scene or covered McHenry fire stations. The Salvation Army Canteen also responded to the scene.

All three buildings sustained fire and smoke damage and were deemed uninhabitable, Harwood said.

The American Red Cross is assisting the homeowners with alternative living arrangements. Harwood said that four residents and a dog were displaced.

McHenry Township Fire Protection District fire investigators are looking into the cause of the fire and a damage estimate was not immediately available.
