Police say they recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested the driver after finding him in possession of a “significant amount” of methamphetamine in Huntley Wednesday afternoon.

The Huntley Police Department conducted a traffic stop around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Huntley Crossings and Route 47.

The car, a Hyundai Sonata, had previously been reported stolen out of Schaumburg, according to Huntley Deputy Police Chief Kevin Keane.

Keane said officers detained the driver, identified as Robert William Mitchell, 42, of Chicago.

Mitchell was the sole occupant of the vehicle and a search of the car was completed.

Officers found drug paraphernalia and more than 275 grams of methamphetamine, Keane said.

The deputy police chief credited “proactive patrol efforts” in the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the drugs.

Mitchell was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, a Class X felony, and possession of a stolen vehicle, a Class 2 felony.

He was transported to the Kane County Jail to await a detention hearing.

“This is still an active investigation, and no further details will be released at this time,” Keane said.
