The coroner has released the identity of a 50-year-old Waukegan mother and grandmother who was fatally struck by a hit-and-run vehicle in Winthrop Harbor Thursday as her family offers a reward.

An autopsy performed Friday showed that Shanna White, 50, of Waukegan, died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries from being struck by a motor vehicle, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.

The Winthrop Harbor Fire Department, Zion Fire-Rescue Department and Winthrop Harbor Police Department responded around 11:10 p.m. Thursday to the 1400 block of Sheridan Road in Winthrop Harbor for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Winthrop Harbor Deputy Fire Chief Brian Haske said fire crews arrived and found a person, later identified as White, down in the roadway.

Winthrop Harbor Police Chief Anthony Velardi said a preliminary investigation shows White was struck by a vehicle that was traveling northbound on Sheridan Road.

The woman died after arriving at Vista Medical Center East. The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the hospital.

The driver and vehicle involved fled the scene following the crash.

The suspect vehicle is believed to have continued northbound after the collision. Investigators say they are working to identify the vehicle and driver involved.

White was the mother of five children and a grandmother to several children, ABC7 Chicago reported.

One of her daughters, Shaeve White, calls the ordeal a “bad dream that I can’t get up from” and said her mother was the “sweetest person” who would give a person a shirt off her back.

“The audacity for them to not even stop and, you know, see if she was okay, at least not considering if she has family, if she’s leaving loved ones behind, like, y’all just really just kept going, like, it’s just crazy,” Shaeve White told ABC7.

The family is offering a $5,000 reward for those who come forward with information leading to an arrest.

The Winthrop Harbor Police Department requested the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) to the scene for the crash reconstruction and investigation.

Velardi said the department is requesting assistance from the public.
